Hey Folks,
I know it's been a while since I last posted, but frankly, with Ginger the psycho dog passing on, doing Taxes, getting Sick, paying property taxes, getting the car fixed, well I just haven't had time.
But durin' all of that we got a new dog in the house.
O.K. how did this happen?
Simple, our local "Friends of the Animal Shelter" was having a Gargage Sale Fund Raiser at the Shelter and I was feeling Garage Sale withdrawl, so we stopped over. Hunka knows the volunteers having volunteered there for a while, and I bought a few things.
Well we also made the mistake of looking at what was in the Shelter and we saw this Pit Mix named Sarge, now this dog obeyed me pretty well, but I had a feeling he was just too much dog for me although he was totally focused on me. Hunka was impressed with this dog.
Well a week later Hunka comes to me saying he had "an awakening" he needed a dog, ever since 'Beauceaphus' passed away he just could not get up the energy to take an interest in anything and Hunka was interested in Sarge----and I was so not on board with this idea.
But I told him check the dog out if the dog works well with you then we'll see.
Well Sarge likes the ladies (human), better than Men, so it did not work out but the Staff told him about Juliet---also a pit bull mix, friendly, socialable, just wants to be loved, nearly 60 pounds of muscel and love.
I told him that if "Mama ain't happy, nobody's happy" cause the dog had to work with me.
We went back, they brought out the dog, Hunka pointed at me and said "There's the Mama" and the dog immediately comes over to me and I say "Sit" the dog sat infront of me (I was sitting in a chair) and rested it's big head on my chest with a look in her eyes that said "Love me please, I'll love you forever!!!"
We got the dog.
When we got her you cold see her ribs and she weighed 55 pounds, she gained 8 pounds her ribs don't poke out, she hogs the bed and gives us ear kisses. She is totally devoted to Hunka, dat's da Daddy, she love and minds me, she knows commands although sometimes she can be a bit dense, she minds me, loves her walks, loves to pay, doesn't know her strength, totally submissive and so far not a mean bitting bone in her body.
90 percent of the people she meets love her, of the remaining 10 percent, well we understand they are afraid of pit bulls and pit mixes, she is friendly and gently protective.
Because she is so strong we are cautious with her, espeically around children and small dogs, she would not hurt them but she likes to play but doesn't know her strength. We also constantly monitor her behavior cause we are still learning what her likes and dislikes are.
But there is several things we've noticed, certain physical types of men she doesn't trust, she'll give them "THE LOOK" and they stay away, but all the other times it's "Hey there wanna play?" If we are in the house and she hears or senses something she'll bark, comes and gets Daddy to deal with it.
Our neighbors crazy adult son stays far, far away from us now, doesn't make any threats or anything like he use to but his parents thinks the dog is beautiful.
Naturally because she is a pit mix people are cautious at first and then they warm up to her.
When Hunka was on one of his walks with her they rested at a bus stop and this old man sat down to rest as well, the dog went over to him and rested her head on the man's knee and the old guy just laughed and petted her. She knows "Kind People".
She has a "formal" name but I think I'll call her "LOVESLUG" in this here blog, 'cause she just loves to be loved.
She'll never replace 'Beauceephus', 'Beau' was a one of a kind dog, Hunka's "Princess Puppy", but Loveslug is a new adventure and frankly, I think we got a winner 'cause this dog knows she's loved and has a Forever home.
So I guess we're going to put out the old sign again that says "Two Nice People and One Very Spoiled Dog Live Here."
Mean Kitty signing off and going to make Loveslugs' breakfast.

Feeling "Blue"....

Well Folks,
I know it's been awhile since I've last posted, but Dang! Things have been busy. I've gone though so many changes these last few months that I can't keep up with them.
Ginger passed away last month, that tiny little thing just laid down and gave up, I was worried 'bout her, she wasn't eatin' properly. Took her to the vet, he told me she was nearly 16 years old, she was older than we thought.
Man, I and my Man we fussed with that dog make sure she'd eat something, she'd like the "Cesar's" dog food, the fillet, but not the grilled stuff, we'd mash it so she'd didn't have to work hard to eat it, but then she started losing her mind....doggie dementia the vet called it.
I mean us humans we get it but to see it in a dog....sad.... and there's nothin' you can do, just keep an eye on her, then she started eatin' less and less, we got so we'd have to spoon feed her, to get her to eat.
Then one day last month, I was in the kitchen washing dishes and I heard her tags behind me and I saw her turning around and around in a tight circle in the middle of the kitchen and then she just collapsed, I couldn't wake her up.
My Man comes in, he sees what's happen and we both agreed, this was it. So picked her up and put her on her doggie bed, every two hours we'd roll her from one side to the other, try and get some water down her, but she couldn't even do that. So we'd just wet a cloth and run it on her gums and see if she'd get something down. Wash her face and such. Petted her, talked to her, kept checking on her.
But it was scary, she did weight at 13 pounds, but she felt light like a feather.
The next day I had to go to work so my Man stayed with her, then later he called me, she had passed over.
Ginger was a strange little dog, for 12 years she had been with a family that abused her, she had serious trust issues, she was a hard dog to love, couldn't pet her, couldn't pick her up, she'd bite you, giving her a bath was an event....heavy gloves, a muzzle....she was a 13 pound dog with the fighting spirit of a 150 pit bull.
She was a hard dog to love, but we'd made a commitment to that little dog to care for her, and make sure she was never abused again in what ever time she had left....when I saw her at the shelter I just knew no one would adopt her with all her issues, and she didn't even trust us, not until the last 9 months of her life, she'd finally let me pet her and stroke her, giving a bath still an event, she even got herself stuck in an area we didn't think she'd get into but she did.
I realized the only way I could get her out was to get on my hands and knees (not an easy thing with my aches and pains) slide my hand under her and lift her up a bit to bring her out. I couldn't find my gloves, so I took a chance figuring I'd get bit any way.....but.... I got her out, I kept sayin' to her "Mommy's here, I'll get you out" and she let me lift her and I got her out and I held her to me and petted her and she let me hold her for all of 5 minutes, then she'd wiggle to get down, That surprised me.
After that when I'd be cooking dinner she'd come up to me and lean against my leg and I'd reach down and pet her and say "Don't worry, Mommy will feed you first". Even in her dementia she still continued to do that until that day she collapsed, but she came into the kitchen where I was...
Poor little weird, demented, evil, vicious, sad, confused, abused dog. At least in the last years of her life, she knew kindness and that no one was going to hurt her, even if she hated getting a bath...
I miss her in a way, but at least I know she's with the angels who take care of doggies and she's in a happier place. Why'd anyone abuse a little thing like that I'll never know.
Both me and my Man agree we cannot trust a person who says they hate dogs, I mean it's different if they say I can't be around dogs or cats allergies, or I'm afraid of dogs because of a bad experience, or to say I prefer cats....well that's different..but to say they hate dogs....you know then they are a "sick person".
I mean there are people who seem to have an affinity for cats, like the fact they are independent, and don't appear to be very needy. Dogs are more work, you have to keep them engaged, exercise them, walk them, exercise their mind.
But they give you this look, that I don't see in cats, and you know they will go to any lengths to please you, so I ask you Folks.....how can a person abuse a dog?
To me then that person is not natural, not right in the head.
Both my Man and I have both said "The more we know about people the more we prefer our dogs."
Right now we are dogless....we've both said....we've got a lot of work we need to do around the house and yard....we cannot take on another dog for now.
But we both know when the right dog comes along it will find us and then we'll be arguing with that dog about hogging the bed or the couch, or it sitting in the front seat of the car and I' have to sit in the back.
But it will be a long time before that will happen....we just have to be patient.
Mean Kitty signing off for now and getting another cup of coffee.

Random Thoughts~~~
Well Folks,
My brain is not thinking very well right now---going back to Standard Time is messing me up.
Plus we had a very busy time of it---lets see, well first it was Halloween, then the Giants won the world series, then we had elections (thank God! the Robo calls have stopped), then we had the Oscar Grant Riots in Oakland, then we switched back to Standard Time, and on top of that it's raining.
It's Raining!! How depressin' be different if it rained between 12 midnight and 4 a.m. but during the day?? Oh well God never listens' to me, even when I told him the seed in the Avocado was too big---he said it's fun to try and grow an avocado tree from it.
I guess he likes to tease us humans.
My Hunka Burnin' love and I are still missing our dog Beaucephus, she died 2 months ago, and we still miss her, soft warm fur, flippy-doddle ears, those soft brown lovin' eyes.
But Burnin' love has found the perfect memorial stone to put in the yard to remember her by, from the Victorian Trading Co. So we'll order it. Then put it where we've buried her.
Now Ginger is acting really strange, of course Ginger is heading towards being 15 years old, so it's not surprising. For some reason she decided to crawl under the bed and sleep there, why I don't know---seems to me it be the most uncomfortable place, but who knows what goes thru a dog's brain.
I am rip roaring pissed at the idiots who trashed Oakland again, and I'm glad that the cops arrested 152 of them---of which 56 were from out of town as far away as San Diego and Long Beach----seems they were professional Agitators---cops couldn't stop all of them, there was damage done but this time in the residential neighbor hoods and when you look at the pictures---well this is going to sound prejudice---but I call it as I see it---but the people who were
doing the trashin' were Black---yup---Black.
doing the trashin' were Black---yup---Black. Take a look at the photos I posted---I don't see any white bread there.
Now is that anyway to memorialize Oscar Grant, a criminal?? Why sure it is---memorialize a criminal by doing criminal activities---a become a criminal yourself---Yep! That is just perfect!
Makes me want to stay far away from Oakland because any there that was there is now long gone. It is now Oscar Grant country---it is forever going to be remembered as a criminal country---because the community could not keep it together and behave in a dignified manner.
I hope that every single one of those 152 future faces that will appear in the next upcoming "COPS" show, get the book thrown at them. And do more than just a slap on the wris
t, a fine and then a few community hours.
t, a fine and then a few community hours. O.K. do I sound angry, do I sound sarcastic?? YES I AM!!!
Just Take a LOOK!!! at those two pictures that I posted here---by the way the fool idiot who covered his face and the other one in the blue hoodie, they were arrested and tossed into jail for vandalizing private property and other laws that they broke, I understand that the owners of those cars are going to be sueing them and their families. Just LOVELY.
When the youngsters of any ethnic background finally wake up and understand that laws are put into place because you have to do right, be right, think right and be productive in a community so that the community can move forward to help one another----but this---THIS---trashing and memorializing a criminal is wrong in so many ways and only points up the twisted thinking that holds back people.
I am eventually going to do a proper Rant on this and I am going to include news stories and pictures just so you can see how people easily believe lies and follow "The Judas Goat into the Slaughter House."
Why?? BEcause there are a ton of fools out there and most of them live either in Oakland or L.A.

Our Princess Puppy
Well Folks,
I knows I haven't posted here for a long time, but things have been busy for me. But today, today I have to write something sad, very sad.
Our Dog passed away yesterday. No we did't put her to sleep, we were lucky in a way, she passed over as nature intended, her body just quit working and she laid down, we made her comfortable as possible and watched over her.
When they refuse water and/or very soft food you know that it. It's time.
She did that, poor thing---We had her loving devoted presense for 16 years, from when she was 6 month old.
She and My Hunka Burnin' Love looked into each others' eyes and that was it. Heck she even "called Shotgun" riding in the car, I had to sit in the back seat.
She had her own way of communicating with us, she was even better than Lassie, but Oh if my Man even so much as petted another dog and came home, she'd give him the third degree sniff and I mean right up close a personal at the personals then she'd look at me and ruff and growled and woof and give my Man an accusing glare that said "How dare you go off with another dog, a hussy at that!"
And my Man would be apologizing and saying "I'm sorry to that dog" more than he would to me.
But I didn't mind, she kept him in line. She'd even keep "evil dog" in line letting evil dog know whose boss.
But then she laid down, even evil dog was puzzed, I could see it in Ginger's eyes, "what happened? The pecking order is off kilter, why is boss dog lying down?" and Ginger would give our Princess a lick on the cheek trying to encourage her to get up, then Ginger started standing guard.
Poor thing it was the only thing she could do. And my man petting our beloved hound until she drew her last breath.
We had a spot picked out for her, her spot is carfully marked, I'm going to get a nice river rock and using patio paints that are weather resistant, paint her name and the years we had her.
She's happy and healthy now, young and carefree, playing catch with my Man's Daddy.
My Hunka Burnin' Love expects her to come and get him when it's time for him to go, and I think she'll do it too.
Right now the house is very quiet, no woof's to wake us up in the morning to let us know she's got to do her 1's and 2's. No lying down in front of the open door with the door screen latched to give friendly woof's at the mail person. No jingle of the dog tags, no sitting in the middle of the kitchen waiting for Mommy to give her treats. No more gentle licks from her soft tongue when we're upset about something.
No more playing with her German Shepard boyfriend ( he died 6 months ago), no more rolling around on the big beach towel to dry off after her bath and then looking up at us coyly. No more of those soft brown eyes that each time look at us saying wordlessly "I love you".
You know the word Dog it right for this type of creature, because Dog is God spelled backwards, and it's God's way of saying I LOVE YOU.
WE LOVE YOU TOO BABY GIRL.
Mean Kitty, crying and signing off for the day.

Time to Check In~~~
Well Folks I guess you thought that I had disappeared off the face of this here Earth~~~
Sorry to disappoint you. (Hee, Hee) Yep! I' m one cantankerous person, Can't keep me down.
So I've been busy, very busy----life has a way of interrupting having fun. I think they call it work.
Well I've been doing that, doin' taxes, doin' a re-fi on the home mortgage (gotta take advantage of the lower interest rates), takin' care of my Hunka burnin' love, the dogs---I've got two of them now.
The second one only weighs 13 pounds, looks like a little fox, I've started calling her "evil dog", she just too smart for her own good, she doesn't bite but she don't like being brushed or washed or picked up---evil dog. But she don't want anyone to get into my space so she puts all 13 pounds between me and any stranger, don't know what she'll do---maybe bite their ankles----evil little dog.
But the little think just loves to be loved. Can't argue with that and she gets along well with Hailey the wonder dog, so can't complain about that.
So anyway I've been busy. When I have more time I will post some rants---lately there has been too much to rant about. The 4 cops who got killed by a parolee that jumped parole and managed to get an illegal gun---now remember I'm stressing illegal----and all these political mental midgets want more gun bans----Gun BANNS DON'T WORK ON THE CRIMINALS!!!
CAN'T YOU IDIOTS REALIZE THAT???!!! THE CRIMINALS WILL IGNORE GUN BANNS!!!
AND REMEMBER THE SECOND AMENDMENT IS WHAT PROTECTS THE REST OF THE OTHER AMENDMENTS!!!
Boy I'm going to have fun later this year, they called me up for jury duty---had to post pone it.
But when I go in and they ask me questions I'll have fun telling them "Hey I'm a member of SASS, a Cowboy re-enactment group, a member of a gun club and I'm a card carrying member of the NRA, Charlton Heston and John Wayne are my gods, and I'm a strong believer in the 2nd Amendment" Boy there are going to be some lawyers that will want me off that jury in a hurry!!! (Hee, Hee)
But believe me folks----there are a lot of people who never had a gun before, but are now taking gun safety training and lessons and are joining up. Even my Brother Bubba, he was formerly a liberal Democrat, even his brother-in-law was a liberal Democrat (am I spelling that word right?)
And Guess What!---They are now card caring, gun toting members of the NRA and are Republicans!! They do not trust Obama's crew and I have to laugh because they know that I told them 20 years ago---"Hey you'se guys are going to be thinking like ME!!" And Guess What! They are.
So who has the last laugh----I tell ya folks---we are going back to the old wild west---the cops can't be every where. They say that the meek shall inherit the earth----and I say where at?
If you watch the movie the Magnificent 7---(love it) the old Mexican tells the farmers "Fight!" because a bad guy is stealing their food and terrorizing the village---so with what little they have they go to a big town to buy guns---but the Gunfighter says "Gunfighters are cheaper than guns" and the 7 gunfighters teach the villagers how to fight. In the end some of the gunfighters die (well they have to in this story and in life) but some live---one young gunfighter decides to settle down but we know he has the ability to teach his people to fight----the old Mexican says to the last two gunfighters "the farmers win, but you are like the scouring wind that rids the land of locusts"
So what does it all mean? Simple, maybe too simple----the cops can't be everywhere---and most of the people are like the defenseless farmers---ripe for having their stuff stolen----so people need to arm themselves and from time to time be like "the scouring wind that rids the land of locusts".
SO "COWBOY UP" PEOPLE, FIGHT TO KEEP YOUR SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS!!! OTHERWISE THE LOCUSTS WILL EAT YOU ALIVE BECAUSE THE IDIOT POLITICOS WILL HAVE MADE YOU TOOTHLESS!!
And that's the bottom line.
(see I did have something to rant about)

Adopting a dog
Arrrgh Folks,
I don’t know if I’m dumb or too big a softie. My Hunka volunteers at the local animal shelter working with the big dogs and he told me about this pee-wee dog that was dumped by its female owner after having the dog for 12 years----Yeah folks dumped!!
Seems that she has 3 boys ages 5 to 9 and not a single one of them pay attention to the dog or if they do they have been too rough with it. They don’t even pay attention when the dog signals that it has to go out side to the bath room, so it winds up peeing and pooping in the house.
So after 12 years of ownership the woman drops the dog off, dragging her kids in as well, at the animal shelter saying “It’s not working out”.
The staff at the shelter were shocked, just dropping the dog off like unwanted clothing, after having the dog for 12 years!!! Heck she should have kept the dog and dump the kids!
So the dog, whose name is Gin-Gin, weighs all of 10 pounds is a Papillion mix, looks like a little fox, is put into one of the holding cells, to get checked out and hopefully adopted, the problem is no one wants to adopt an elder dog, especially one that has 12 years of “bad tapes”.
Now Hunka is talking to me about this little dog (she’s a female), and the callousness of the owner, so during one of the warm days the shelter is having an ice cream social for the volunteers and their guest, and I see Gin-Gin and she had such a confused sad look in her eyes, so I said “If that dog is not adopted by (a certain date) we’ll adopt her”---Duh did I say that???!!! Well I did---O.K. I’m a softie.
So that ‘certain date’ came and went and no one even looked at her, so she became a member of our family, of course there is a period of adjustment, like Beaucephuse has to let her know what the pecking order is and we have to read her “body language”, she does now understand the routine that when Beaucephuse goes out to the bathroom she’s gotta go too and do her 1’s and 2’s and she’s pretty good about it, although because they’re dogs, we do put paper down in the kitchen and she learned real good that if it’s on the paper she gets praised.
Of course what bugged us is that she didn’t want to sleep on this nice sleeping blanket, Beau has one and we got one for her but she’d just crawl under the bed and sleep there. Well that was puzzlement, then we put it down to 12 years of bad tapes, but recently that worked itself out.
One Sunday evening we were watching Retro Night on T.V. 20 (I think it was the “Adams Family”) when all of a sudden Gin-Gin hops onto the bed that Hunka and I were sitting on (it’s really comfortable and nice and warm during the Winter), she looks at us and we look at her, (now what, I think) and then she slowly walks up to us and curls up between the two of us, then Beau hops up and she curls up right at our knees, after a bit they both stretch out and I hear a very contented sigh coming from Gin-Gin, Hunka looks at me and says “Good thing we’ve got a big bed and a beat up quilt, otherwise it be mighty crowded here”.
So now when we watch T.V. or read and listen to music on the radio it’s all 4 of us on the bed, last night for some reason, it was real quiet and Hunka put on a Christmas CD by mistake, all nice and guitar, and it’s playing “Silent Night”, Hunka is reading his western novel and I’m fixing a hem on my skirt, and the dogs let out a collective sigh after having their bellies full of good food.
We heard that collective sigh and Hunka and I looked at each other and smiled, Yeah Beaucephus and Gin-Gin, it can’t get much better than this.
Mean Kitty signing off---all contented and beginning to feel Christmassey.

Yard Sales and Dogs
Well Howdy-Do Folks,
I’ve been having a most interesting weekend, starting on Friday night.
Well Friday night me and my Hunka, Hunka Burnin’ Love were settling down in bed to watch T.V. and no I don’t mean Jay Leno.
With my bum knee it’s much easier for me to sit in bed upright and watch T.V. and be comfortable. So Hunka to not feel lonely joined me, and so did Beaucephus the dog.
Did you know that dogs have a way of making a person move out of the bed without out them moving a muscle? That’s a fact. Our dog Beaucephus is a wizard at that trick. Old Beau will just lie there not twitch a hair and the next thing I know either me or Hunka is out of the bed and the dog has taken over. How do they do that??!! They don’t move a muscle and yet they manage to take over the whole dang bed!! I have never seen a cat do that maneuver.
Cats just give you the evil eye if you move. But dogs, they just spread themselves out like unwanted in-laws that drop by without telephoning. Science should study that, there maybe a secret weapon in that maneuver.
Anyway we all are getting comfy, cozy going to watch “Smackdown” wrestling, although I’ve been grumbling because the Undertaker was forced to leave the show although Triple H ain’t a bad substitute but he’s no Undertaker.
So the show comes on and Vickie and Edge are having their little talk and Vickie (cause she found out that Edge was fooling around before the wedding) plays a real good trick on Edge. She announces that the Undertaker is returning to Smackdown and at “Summer Slam” will compete against Edge in a “hell in a cell” match!
Well I just screamed “YYYYEEESSSSSS!!!” and I’m sure that the neighbors were thinking that Hunka and I were doing something naughty but who cares, all though the young guys on the block were looking at Hunka the next day with smiles on their faces and saying “way ta go man” and Hunka didn’t have a clue, until an hour later then his face turned 10 shades of red and it wasn’t a Sunburn.
Anyway, Hunka was happy too about the Undertakers return and said “that is righteous!”
So now all is right in a section of my world.
So on the weekend I’m doing a Yard sale.
Yard sales are a great way to get rid of things you no longer need, but is of some use to other people and you can get some extra money.
But I take it a step further, what doesn’t sell that I don’t want to hang on to, I box up and donate to a charity. So I may not get cash, but I do get a tax-write off which works just as good and is like cash in the bank later.
And it just so happens that a charity is doing their pick up drive the week after I do the yard sale, so I don’t even have to drop it off someplace, and that works for me and saves gas and time.
Now some people will take a yard sale even one more step, especially if the weather is fine. What they will do is have a bunch of their friends come over with things to sell and have a bar-b-que as well. And if that is not having fun with friends and making money then I don’t know what is.
Oh and how did I do on my yard sale? Got rid of 2/3’s of the stuff I didn’t want to keep, am donating almost half of what is left and the rest, well that’s no problem since I’m having another yard sale next month and I know that will all go.
Now that is Recycling!!
Now if I can just figure out how Beaucephus can take over the whole bed without moving I’ll have it made.
Mean Kitty signing off relaxing.

Ya Like the Picture??
Hi Folks,
A Friend of mine sent me that little ol' picture that I have posted at the top. Told me that some people want to know what ol' Mean Kitty looks like.
Hmmmm I kinda like it. Strutting down the street, with a "take no prisoners" attitude.
(just whistle that opening theme from "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly")
Anyway, I've had a lot of people tell me that when they see me at first they think "ahhh she's just a pussycat"----and then "dum, de, dum, de dum dum dum dum" They say I even squint like Clint Eastwood---well that's because I'm near sighted I have to squint.
My Hunka, Hunka Burnin' love wants to join up with a Cowboy action shooting group, I told him go ahead, hell we've got enough guns for it. I've been to several of their "Shoots" and I like the competition and the fact that they dress like the old west, men and women. A number of them are involved in Gunfight old west Re-enactors that talk about the old west and gun safety.
There's one old boy he's got this Australian cattle dog, rescued it from a freeway, out in the middle of no where, dog hadn't eaten in days the man told me and was just about pegged out, he comes along with his Missus, sees the dog on the side of the road trying to get to somewhere.
So he pulls up, the dog sees him but doesn't know what to do, so the Missus comes out with a bit of hot dog and says come on baby Mama will take care of you.
Well hunger and thirst will overcome caution and the dog came to them so they put him into their camper and while the man drove she gave some water and a little bit of food to the dog so it wouldn't get sick, then the poor thing fell asleep. So when they got home they gave it a little more water and food and let the poor thing fall asleep again in their living room while they watched T.V. They gave him a few days to recover then took the dog to their old vet.
The vet said that the Dog was in good shape but had been starved, and foot sore, So with a good flea and tick bath, vitamins, medicine for the paws, good food and good lovin' the dog recovered and is very devoted to the couple, had the dog now for two years and they won't go no where with out the dog.
"Had to change some of our routines on account of the dog and hot days" They do their shopping in the evening during the hot weather, or one of them goes into the store and the other stays with the dog, some of the places they go to will allow them to bring the dog in. When it's winter or rainy there's no problem.
And with their trailer they don't have to worry about where to stay for "Shoots" or traveling.
I asked them what's the dogs' name "Freeway" they said---well that's as good as any. They have no idea how that dog got there, but they've never regretted rescuing him. They got him use to the shoots and noises, and make him comfortable when they are competing----set up their gun cart, with shade and a comfortable rug for the dog to lie down on. Dog knows the drill.
So Hunka, Hunka is going to join a local group since we are already members of SASS (Signle Action Shooting Society) and I'll be his cheerleader. I can shoot but with this bum knee I can't compete very well.
Oh well can't do everything.
Anyway don't you think that's a cute picture---Dang if it doesn't look like me---or at least my attitude.
Mean Kitty signing off---going to watch a Clint Eastwood movie.

WHY DID THE CHICKENS CROSS THE ROAD?
Because the idiot truck driver lost part of his load and the chickens were scrambing for their lives, THAT'S WHY!
True news story, heard it on KSFO radio yesterday morning. Some delivery driver lost a crate of chickens on one of the smaller highways at 8 a.m. and the drivers were doing their best to avoid the future KFC dinners. O.K. a couple of chickens were injured, can't avoid that. Heck, if you fell off a turnip truck you'd be injured too.
Although there are some people who are so dumb they'd fall off a turnip truck just on principal.
But how that truck driver could miss losing a crate of chickens is one for the books----after hearing it on the news he'll never be able to hold his head up again.
Now if my Mom was there, she would have had them all herded up and not lose a one. But then that's my Mom.
This woman could charm the birds out of the trees and the fish out of the water----I mean for real---no brag, just fact.
You'd have to have seen it to believe it.
Years ago, my Mom bought this ratty looking faded St. Francis with the birds statue, she put it on an old tree stump that we had in the back yard and nailed an old small wooden tray to the stump and would put seed in the tray. The birds would come for miles around to eat and she'd be sitting on the old car bench seat on the back porch in the shade and watch them.
She got to know their routines, their habits and they got use to her being around and would feed while she was no more than 12 inches away weeding in the garden.
She also installed a bird fountain and filled it with fresh water every morning while the coffee was perking. And she'd come out at 4 p.m. every afternoon (unless it was raining) to put more fresh water for the "4 o'clock robin". It was this robin, he'd come by every afternoon, at 4 p.m. and squawk until she came out and put in fresh water.
One time she wasn't feeling well so I put the water out---but that didn't make the robin happy---he'd squawk and squawk until she finally came out in her robe and put more fresh water in the bird bath---THEN he'd take his bath and she'd say "You are such a dirty bird" and she'd be no more than 12 or 18 inches away from the bath while he bathed, he had no fear of her.
During the winter, the sparrows would use the bath to drink and bathe when the sun had warmed the water up a bit. But one day, the water had frozen solid in the bath because it was so cold the night before, now I'm talking a solid block of ice!
So Mom goes out and is trying to figure out how to get the block of ice out of the bird bath and just as she comes back with a garden trowel to pry it out, out of the blue comes a dive bombing sparrow ready to splash into the water and instead hits the ice and skids off into another direction like an Olympic ski jumper---Man saw that and said "I'll give that a 9.1"
Well the poor little guy and his buddies were hopping around the edge of the bird bath and pecking at the ice and scratching their little heads trying to figure out 'hard water' until Mom took pity on them and got the ice block out and put in fresh water, they were as happy as happy can be, all was right with the world thanks to her, the Great Mother Earth Goddess.
Another time Mom put out some bread crumbs in the bird feeder tray and one sparrow managed to get a nice large piece but it was a bit too heavy to fly with so it fluttered down to the garden sidewalk and started pecking at it. Along comes another sparrow and steals it away from the first but just hopping about 5 to 6 inches away, well the first sparrow comes along and steals it back but again just hopping only 5 - 6 inchs over to one side-----back and forth and back and forth these two birds were fighting over this tiny piece of dry bread.
What they didn't see, but Mom could, was sitting right behind them was the dog, Pepe. Now Pepe was a toy poodle all black with brown eye brows, paws and a brown muzzle, you could see what that dog was thinking and right at that moment, Pepe was intently watching the bickering between these two feathered antagonists as they snatched and moved the bit of bread crumb between them.
What they didn't realize is that their movements was bringing them closer and closer to the dog until the little guy just couldn't stand their bickering any more and went "Wooolf!" to which they dropped the bread crumb flew away and left Pepe with the spoils. Mom laughed so hard about that, that when I came home from work and was having dinner she regaled me with the whole exploit. Even I had a hard time trying to not snort water up my nose I was laughing so hard.
It was much better than gossiping on the neighbors and so much nicer. In time Mom began to regard the animal exploits and adventures as if it were events in the neighborhood and without all that angst as well. Like watching old "Honeymooners" or "I love Lucy" episodes every day.
When she set up the humming bird feeder on the back porch it added another dimension to her life, watching the hummingbirds coming around and feeding off of them and taking quick little snatches at the tiny, tiny fruit flies that it attracted as a bonus.
One day I was in the laundry room that led to the porch and Mom was sitting in the back Porch and I knew better than to come out while a hummingbird was feeding but through the screened window that was mounted on the back porch door, I could see Mom watching the hummingbirds at the feeder.
One of them flew right up to Mom no more than 6 inches from her face and just looking at her first with one eye then turning it's head and looking at her with the other eye, and just fluttering in one place the way hummingbirds can do, and Mom said to it "Oh you are just such a pretty, pretty bird. What a pretty bird you are." It quickly flew around her head and came back to the same place in front of her and she said "and so fast too, you are a pretty and very fast little bird" and with that the bird went back to the feeder for another quick fill up and took off.
The whole incident left me with my mouth open---it was like that little bird knew what my Mom was saying.
There is so much more, but right now I can't go on---I'm getting tears in my eyes just thinking about her and the amazing things she could do. It was no wonder animals, birds, and fish had no fear but complete trust in her. Even tiny little kiddies trusted her.
I'll finish this another time Folks, but who'd thought a crate full of chickens on a Highway could bring back such wonderful memories. I think I'm gonna get me a cuppa tea.
Mean Kitty curling up in a chair with a cuppa tea and just reminising, signing off.
